My experience with cdjapan.co.jp - Shipping time and packaging

In this post I will show you how the books had been packaged, the shipping cost and compare how accurate the estimated delivery time is with my experience, in case there are people who are concerned about this.

cdjapan is a Japanese online shopping site selling cds, DVD, model kits, figures, books and more.

The site is in english which makes it easy for non Japanese speakers to use.

Shipping time and cost with SAL - How long does it take?

On the site it says that shipping with SAL on average takes from 2 to 6 weeks although it can take up to 12 weeks.
My personal experience is that shipping from Japan to Denmark rarely takes more than a month.

Cost wise it depends on the type and number of items your ordering.
Here are some examples of shipping cost:
1 tankobon or 1 pack of book covers: 610 JPY
2 tankobon or 2 pack of book covers: 810 JPY
3 tankobon or 3 pack of book covers: 1010 JPY

1 kanzenban (complete edition) book: 910 JPY
2 kanzenban (complete edition) book: 1310 JPY
3 kanzenban (complete edition) book: 1810 JPY

So you do save a bit on shipping buy ordering several items at a time.
You can always check the shipping cost of the items in your basket, and compare the cost of different shipping options which is very convenient.

Comparison with honto.jp shipping cost

The shipping cost on cdjapan has changed since i made the post about my experience with honto.jp.

Here are some examples of shipping cost from my orders on honto.jp:
1 kanzenban: 696 JPY
2 light novels: 576 JPY
3 tankobon: 936 JPY

The above prices are from my orders last year and may have changed. I might make an update if i make any new orders. But if the prices are still the same, then they prices on honto are generally better.

Packaging - Did the items arrive safely?

I always use the standard packaging option. But they also offer other types of packing of your choosing. For example envelope.

But if you choose anything besides the standard packaging, it will not be possible to change it once the order is placed. So bear that i mind.

The book is wrapped in bubble wrap before being put in a cardboard envelope. The box seems pretty sturdy and protects your books well. The box is bigger than the opening of my mailbox, so it won't fit in case i am not home to receive the package. In that case i would have to pick it up at the post office.

The book was in perfect/mint condition and didn't seem to have gotten any damages at all while being shipped, so I am very happy with that.

Earning points

1 point equals 1 JPY

cdjapan has point campaigns once in a while where you can receive more points from your purchases than usual, but you have to order for a certain amount.

But you can also earn point after ordering, by filling out a survey they usually send some time after order placement. Completing this survey gives you 50 point to spend on new orders.

I believe they also give you 300 points on your birthday, which is really neat.

Closing comment

Overall I am satisfied with my experience with cdjapan and can see myself using their services again in the future in conjunction with honto.jp. It would be nice if they had more sales instead of just point campaigns.

Prices on shipping has changes though and now shipping seems a bit cheaper on honto.jp.
I want to find out which books have cheapest shipping cost depending on what you buy. So I might make an update if i find out anything further.
